What is Direct-to-Mobile (DTM), the Government's NexGen Broadcast Technology, and how will it work?
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), and IIT Kanpur are discussing the issue with representatives of the telecom and future of broadcasting industries.
NexGen Broadcast is similar to an extension of a content
delivery network (CDN) that is
ideally integrated into over-the-top (OTT),
also known as streaming TV, technology, which refers to content providers that
deliver media distribute. Directly supplements the need for traditional cable
or satellite TV services. On the other hand, streaming is a comprehensive
technology used to transmit data (audio, video, etc.) across an ecosystem and
architecture. This innovative approach enables direct-to-mobile (DTM) providers to harness the capabilities of
existing CDNs and edge computing, creating a seamless TV viewing experience on
mobile devices.
To test this, IIT Kanpur has set up a three-site live proof-of-concept (PoC) using a low-power BRH (Broadcast Radio Head) solution for NextGen Digital Terrestrial Transmission (DTT). There is a new paradigm, and it has been established in the Low-Power Cell Tower in Bangalore. Data Rate: Up to 24 Mbps by Saankhya Labs
