 Hindu wedding ceremonies are full of fun, enjoyable, colorful. Sometimes the house of the bride and groom decorated with flowers and balloons. Moreover, the ceremony consists of several days, many cultural and religious rituals.

Proposal and First Meeting

The father finds an educated man and then asks him for his daughter's marriage. If both families agreed, then they arranged the first meeting of the couple.

However, the first meeting always causes some awkwardness because the bride and groom are less familiar with each other. Furthermore, they don't know how to start the conversation. They can start it by asking some questions about future planning and whether they agree for marriage or not.

Engagement Ceremony

When both the man and woman fix an agreement for marriage, the engagement ceremony held. Moreover, it is the pre-ceremony event and is most demanding in every religious culture.

The parents of the bride and groom confirm their virtues and announce the wedding date. Usually, this event held three to six months before marriage.

Mehendi ceremony

In the Mehendi ceremony, the paste of henna applied on the bride's hands and feet, but in some regions, it applied to the groom's hands as well.

When the bride sits for hours for the art of Mehendi on hand, there is a lot of dancing. Further, married women sing traditional songs and played a conventional instrument called Dholki.

Sangeet Ceremony and Tilak/Sagan ceremony

Sangeet Ceremony was the part of the North Indian family, but now it also shows it's presence in South Indian families. However, an event full of fun and enjoyment. Hence, both families of the couple prepare dance performances and sing songs.

Tilak ceremony considered the first step of creating a strong relationship between two families. This event usually arranged in the groom's house.

Furthermore, the male members of the bride's family visited the groom's house, and do a ritual of tilak vermilion on his forehead. Besides this, they also enjoyed music and dance.

Haldi and Roka Ceremony

Haldi ceremony differs in the various regions of the country. In this, the paste of Haldi applied to the bride and groom's body. However, it considers as a beautifying procedure and preparation for their big day.

Roka ceremony considered the first step to marriage. In this event, both the bride and groom announce their consent for the wedding.

Both families exchange gifts like sweets, dry fruits, etc. in some families, a pooja performed by a religious cleric.

Vara Yatra

The bride wears a red dress on the day of marriage, and the arrival of the groom is itself a celebration. A temporary structure prepared under which the couple weds.

Kanyadaan

Father of the bride does Kanyadaan in which he takes the hand of the bride and gives it to the groom's hand. In this way, the father of the bride gives her away.

The groom accepts her hand and promises her father that he will never fail the bride in his shadowing of artha, dharma, and kama. However, he made the promise three times.

Saptapadi and Vidaai

Saptapadi consists of seven steps in which the bride and groom vow make to each other. After the seventh step, they become husband and wife.

Vidaai marks the completion of the event in which the bride throws five-time handfuls with rice, which reflects prosperity and money.

When she sits in the car, the brothers of the bride push the car showing that they are helping her in starting a new life.

After this, money thrown on the roads to discard the evil spirits.

Reception and Blessing Ceremony

Reception is the ceremony of introducing the bride to the groom's relatives or surroundings, and it packed with a lot of celebrations. This event has no specific rituals.

The blessing ceremony is the Ashirvad ceremony. In this event, the parents of the bride visited the groom's house. Further, they present them sweets, fruits, and diamond or gold jewelry.

After this, the couple touches their feet in the sense of Ashirvaad.

Diwar Rokai and Griha Pravesh ceremony

This fun ceremony mostly witnessed in the North Indian families. However, in this ceremony, the sisters of the groom stop entering the couple in the house before presenting them a precious gift.

Griha Pravesh is the welcome ceremony of the bride in the groom's house. Firstly, the bride asked to hit the jar filled with rice with her right toe. This shows that the groom's family warmly welcome her in their house and family.

Munh Dikhai and Pag Phera Ceremony

Munh Dikhai is the post-wedding ceremony held to introduce the bride to the groom's family. However, the women come and unveil her face, and they present to gifts.

Pag Phera is the last ceremony in which the bride's brother brings her back to his father's house, and she stays here three days. After three days, the groom comes and brings her back to his house.
